According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the comments against Hungary made by Luxembourgian Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn and European Parliament (EP) President Martin Schultz are severely worsening the European crisis.

On Wednesday, Mr. Szijjártó issued a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI in reaction to the fact Luxembourgian Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn called for Hungary to be excluded from the European Union in Tuesday’s issue of German daily Die Welt.

Then later that day, the paper published an interview with EP President Martin Schultz entitled “Some countries just want to take, but do not want to give anything” and in the online version under the title “I do not understand what Mr. Orbán is thinking”.

In response, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said: “Despite his denials, Jean Asselborn has launched a vile attack on Hungary”.

“The people of Hungary must face the astounding fact that the country is now also under attack from within the European Union because of protecting against the dangers of illegal immigration”, he added.

According to Mr. Szijjártó “Jean Asselborn and Martin Schulz do not care about the Hungarian people and in fact they do not care about the rule of law or democracy either”; all they care about is that as many illegal migrants as possible arrive in Europe.

They are condemning as being “anti-revolutionary” and “foreign to European values” a country that launched a national revolution against its oppressors and gave its blood for its freedom”, the Foreign Minister highlighted, adding: They claim that “everyone can say whatever they want, but if someone does not say what they are saying then they exclude and stigmatise them”.

“This is unacceptable; this isn’t European behaviour”, Mr. Szijjártó declared, stressing that “The Hungarian Government will do everything possible to ensure that Europe does not continue in this direction”.
