The statement made in criticism of Hungary by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which totally disregards the facts and the actual situation, is unacceptable, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó declared.
The Minister issued a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI with reference to comments by Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein on Thursday, according to which the measures Hungary has introduced with relation to the migration crisis contravene international law. The High Commissioner also called the politics of the Hungarian Government xenophobic and anti-Muslim.
In reaction, Mr. Szijjártó said the High Commissioner’s statement was unacceptable.
“We regret that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights hasn’t spoken a word in condemnation of the fact that aggressive immigrants launched a prolonged and brutal attack against Hungarian police using stones and pieces of concrete”, he said.
“Prejudicial and emotive statements” of this kind provide further encouragement to the perpetrators of violent acts, and accordingly those who make such statements are responsible for their possible recurrence”, Minister Szijjártó pointed out.
