Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó has summoned Ukraine’s Ambassador to Budapest to the Ministry on Monday, because he would like to personally inform him that he regards the amendment of the Ukrainian Education Act as “shameful and outrageous”, the Ministry’s Spokesperson informed Hungarian news agency MTI on Sunday.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade has issued an order according to which Hungarian diplomacy may not support any Ukrainian initiative in any international organisation, and Hungary will not support any decision that is important to Ukraine, he told the press.
Hungary will put forward the issue of the Ukrainian legislative amendment at all possible forums within the UN, OSCE and European Union, and will prevent issues that are important to Ukraine from being realised, the Spokesperson indicated.
The main reason for the measure is the amendment of the Education Act, which makes is impossible for minorities from being taught in their native language, Mr. Menczer stressed. However, another reason is that at a meeting of EU and Eastern Partnership foreign ministers in Tallinn recently, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister provided an unacceptable reply to a proposal by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the Ministry Spokesperson said.
