Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received MKP President József Berényi, who informed the Minister about the party’s preparations for the Slovakian election campaign and the current status of the Hungarian minority in Upper Hungary, the Ministry said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday.
According to the statement, Péter Szijjártó and József Berényi agreed: if the atmosphere of the Slovakian election campaign were to become tense as a result of provocations, it would have an extremely negative effect both on Slovakian-Hungarian bilateral relations and with regard to the Hungarian minority in Upper Hungary.
The Minister and the President of the MKP also agreed on the high importance of the Hungarian minority having a strong representation in the Slovakian parliament following the elections, the Ministry stated.
