Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Cuban First Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade Antonio Luis Carricante Corona had talks on Friday in Budapest regarding the options of the repayment of Cuba’s sovereign debt towards Hungary and cooperation between the two countries.
The communiqué highlights: a new situation has emerged in the wake of the normalisation of relations between the United States and Cuba which opens the way for cooperation between Cuba and the countries of Europe.
Common membership in the International Investment Bank (IIB) offers sound foundations for cooperation between Hungary and Cuba, as part of which it will be possible to finance common investment projects.
The two politicians discussed the options for the repayment of Cuba’s sovereign debt towards Hungary, and the parties came to an agreement that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will promote the participation of Hungarian businesses in the Havana International Fair as of this year, the communiqué reads.
