On 11 August, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Levente Magyar summoned to his office Ambassador of Romania Victor Micula, to request an explanation of comments made by Prime Minister of Romania Victor Ponta on 10 August on Romania TV; these included unacceptable accusations against Hungary.

These accusations show that the Romanian prime minister is yet again seeking to use anti-Hungarian agitation in order divert attention from the internal crisis in his country, in which members of his government have been repeatedly charged with wrongdoing and sentenced in court. These outbursts by the Romanian government are seriously hindering the development of bilateral and neighbourly relations between Hungary and Romania. Therefore the Government of Hungary has requested  that in future members of the Romanian state leadership refrain from making such statements.
