At an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Bratislava, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó held talks with Foreign Minister of Malta George Vella. Among others, they discussed the issue of migration.

Malta also considers the wave of migration which Europe faces to be a security challenge, and it will keep the issue high on its EU presidential agenda in the first half of 2017.

At the meeting, Mr. Szijjártó stressed that Hungary will strongly oppose the system of compulsory quotas in the future as well, and will support solutions which focus on stopping migration, instead of distributing migrants.

Europe’s security situation has recently significantly deteriorated as a result of the wave of migration and the increasing threat of terrorism and worsening public security situation that it has brought with it.
