On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Deputy State Secretary for International Cooperation Ádám Zoltán Kovács attended the first global consultation of the Nansen Initiative in Geneva on 12-13 October 2015. In his speech, he highlighted that Hungary regards supporting the cause of individuals who are compelled to leave their homes in consequence of natural disasters as a particular priority.
At the global consultation, the participating States approved a joint declaration in which they support the cause of those compelled to flee from their homes in response to the climate change, and promote the sharing of best practices.
During the course of his stay in Geneva, the Deputy State Secretary had talks with Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, with regard to the fact that the High Commissioner has levelled criticisms on several occasions recently at the asylum measures of the Hungarian Government. The parties stressed the significance of a future constructive and progressive dialogue between the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Hungary in the interest of resolving any differences.
