Should the European Union adopt a decision against Hungary under Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union, that is, a decision on the suspension of Hungary’s voting rights, it could only be construed as Brussels’ revenge on account of Hungary’s successful immigration policy, Péter Szijjártó stated at his press conference held in Budapest on Friday.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade gave the above reply to a journalist’s enquiry regarding the news that, based on a civic initiative, the EU College of Commissioners contemplated the invocation of Article 7 against Hungary.
The news portal Index reported on Friday that, according to their information, a political decision has been adopted in the EU College of Commissioners regarding the civic initiative which, if concluded successfully, would request the Commission to institute “proceedings under Article 7” and take “the case of Hungary” to the decision-making Council of Ministers.
Mr Szijjártó said: if such a decision has indeed been adopted or will be adopted by the College of Commissioners, it could only be contrary to the relevant regulations as the European Commission would have no right to make a decision of this nature. Therefore, if such a decision is adopted, it cannot be construed in any other way than as the revenge of pro-immigration Brussels and the pro-immigration institutions of the European Union against Hungary, he said. Hungary’s example stands as proof of the fact that the flood of immigration can be stopped successfully, and Hungary’s success likewise proves that the European immigration policy has failed and Hungary’s policy has prevailed, he added.
“In other words, if such a decision were adopted, I would only be able to perceive it as the revenge of Brussels”, Mr Szijjártó said.
