Hungary will continue to fully adhere to EU law “whether our neighbours like it or not”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian News agency MTI on Friday.
In reaction to comments from Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, the Minister said that the Austrian Chancellor “continues to paint a false picture” of Hungary. Hungary provides everyone with access to the care required by international legal conventions and with the opportunity to submit a request for refugee status in accordance with international law”, he said.
Hungary will continue to fully adhere to all European Union regulations, whether our neighbours, who instead of offering a real solution to the challenges posed by immigration are encouraging people to take unnecessary risks and endanger their lives, “like it or not”, Mr. Szijjártó stressed.
According to information received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, at a joint press conference with Vice-Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner, the Austrian Chancellor thanked aid organisations for their help in Austria, adding that it was “of international standard, unlike in Hungary”. With regard to transporting migrants, he said cooperation with Hungary was very bad.
