In London on Wednesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said that, as a NATO ally, Hungary is open to close cooperation with the United States of America and its newly-elected president.
Mr. Szijjártó, who had arrived in London with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for a one-day official working visit, told the Hungarian press that the American people have expressed their opinion, and naturally it must be respected. “Over the past year we have witnessed a remarkable election campaign, which has now come to an end with a clear decision from the American people”, Mr. Szijjártó said.
According to Mr. Szijjártó, it is clear that in both the world economy and world politics a new era has begun – one which poses historic challenges for most countries of the world.
The Minister mentioned some of the challenges related to migration, mass immigration and the escalation of armed conflicts. He added that amid these historic conflicts, it is clear that new and innovative policies and new and courageous approaches will be needed, as traditional means have proved to be less effective.
