“Hungary is fully adhering to all EU regulations when handling and treating the immense numbers of immigrants, in addition to which it is doing everything possible to protect the external Schengen border”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Sunday.

The Ministry was reacting to an interview published on Sunday with the leader of the Swiss Social Democratic Party, the Swiss government coalition’s second strongest party, in which he asked that the alpine state freeze financial support to Hungary in view of the “human rights situation there and the refugee crisis”. Christian Levrat also asked the Swiss authorities to ban Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán from entering Switzerland.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade stressed that statements of this kind do nothing to further a solution to the crisis and are only suitable for generating unnecessary political uproar.
