The Budapest Human Rights Forum was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2008 with the aim to provide a “meeting place” for national and international human rights experts representing international organizations, governments and the civil society to exchange views on various domains of human rights. Hungary, being strongly committed to the protection and promotion of human rights, believes that these conferences may efficiently contribute to better understanding among different actors of today’s world.

Due to the successful outcomes of the six previous editions, today the Budapest Human Rights Forum is considered as a distinguished annual venue in connection with human rights. In the previous years, the Forums covered different topics, for example the establishment of the International Centre for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities in Budapest, human rights defenders in the world, human rights education and training, the freedom of expression and the freedom of internet, minority issues, the rights of women and children, the right to water and sanitation, the role of the UN Human Rights Council, free movement of people as well as the importance of international election observation, freedom of religion and belief, human rights and the media, human rights of persons belonging vulnerable groups etc.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary organises the seventh annual international Human Rights Forum in Budapest on 20 and 21 November 2014.
