“Today, American companies have the second largest volume of investment in Hungary after Germany”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade highlighted at the inauguration of Alcoa-Köfém Ltd’s new global service centre in Székesfehérvár on Tuesday.
Mr. Szijjártó told reporters that the 1600 American enterprises currently operating in Hungary employ some hundred thousand people. The move by Alcoa further reinforces American-Hungarian economic relations and is creating 100 new jobs, he added.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister said that last year, service centres like the one established by Alcoa provided the second largest volume of investment after automobile investment projects, adding that more and more companies are recognising that there are many suitable locations outside Budapest and accordingly there are now 40 thousand people working in such service centres in 90 different cities.
Alcoa, which is in the process of splitting into two separate companies, built its new service centre with an investment of HUF 350 million (EUR 1.1M). The centre’s old units will serve the new company, Arconic.
