“The Hungarian Government rejects all attacks using chemical weapons and the events also confirm that a negotiated settlement of the Syrian conflict is a matter of extreme urgency”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Hungarian news agency MTI on Friday.
The Ministry stressed with relation to the alleged chemical attack on Tuesday that “everything possible must be done to ensure that terrible attacks of this nature cannot happen”.
“In addition, the fight against the Islamic State must also be continued; the terrorist organisation must be defeated”, the statement said, explaining that until this happens there will not be peace in the region and illegal immigration will also continue.
“The fundamental condition for the establishment of a long-term peace (in Syria) is cooperation between the American and Russian parties”, the statement reads.
On Friday, the United States launched a military strike on the Syrian army’s base at Shayrat Airfield in Homs, which it said was in response to a chemical attack by Sryian government forces using Sarin gas in Idlib province killing 86 people, including 27 children, and wounding 546 others.
