In the wake of the terrorist attacks in France, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán decided that the protection of Hungary must be reinforced. To this end, the National Security Task Force headed by the Prime Minister met and decided on the introduction of reinforced security measures.
Based on these measures, the Hungarian Defence Forces have reinforced the protection of their facilities and have enhanced their presence with their policing service in various points around the country. As part of the reinforced security measures, armed soldiers will patrol the vicinity of barracks and other military facilities, and security measures related to entry into these facilities have been tightened as well. The protection of the areas where members of the military serving on the southern border are being quartered has also been upgraded, and the security regulations applicable to soldiers participating in missions have been tightened.
In the interest of enhancing the security of the Hungarian people, the reinforced armed military police patrol units of the Hungarian Defence Forces will guarantee security in landmark locations, main traffic junctions and venues attracting large numbers of people in Budapest. The soldiers ordered to protect military facilities and members of the military police patrolling on foot and in vehicles perform their duties under the general rules of carrying arms. The Hungarian Defence Forces request the participation of the public in the enforcement of the reinforced security measures, and further request their understanding for any inconvenience which may be caused.
