In the field of defence, the United States of America is one of Hungary’s most important strategic partners, said Defence Minister Tibor Benkő who received US Ambassador to Budapest David Cornstein in his office on 12 March.
At the meeting, the parties reviewed the results of bilateral cooperation, and the topical aspects of several regional security issues.
They agreed that the earliest and widest possible implementation of the Defense Cooperation Agreement signed by representatives of the two countries in 2019 is in the best interests of both parties. Regarding involvement in Iraq, Mr Benkő said Hungary as a reliable ally of the United States is committed to the attainment of the goals set by NATO.
At the meeting, the parties confirmed that protecting the safety and health of military personnel is a top priority. In the interest of preventing the further spread of the coronavirus epidemic, training missions as well as national and international exercises could be rescheduled.
