The relevant ministry of the United Arab Emirates removed Hungary from the list of countries affected by bluetongue. As a result of this measure, it will be possible to transport cattle and small ruminants to the Middle East state from all over Hungary without obstacles.
Bluetongue, a disease affecting cattle and sheep, appeared in Hungary in 2015, causing problems in the export of this livestock to a number of third countries. However, Hungary successfully fulfilled the conditions for becoming free of bluetongue set by the World Veterinary Organizasion this year.
National chief veterinarian dr. Lajos Bognár informed partner countries about the recovery of free from bluetongue status without delay, as a result of which the United Arab Emirates removed Hungary from the list of countries affected by the disease a few days ago. Once the veterinary export certificates are updated, it will become possible to export cattle and small ruminants from Hungary’s entire territory to the Middle East country without obstacles.
In the future, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Hungarian veterinary authority will make every effort to mitigate commercial restrictions still in place, and to open up new markets for Hungarian businesses.
