“The food industry, outstanding raw materials and traditional agricultural products and foods filled with delicious flavours are important pillars of both Croatian and Hungarian culture”, Deputy Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said at the opening of the Croatian Farm Breakfast held at the Croatian Market event in Budapest’s Great Market Hall.

“All events that enable a greater insight into the results that neighbouring countries have achieved within the field of the food industry and their product range are important to the Ministry of Agriculture”, he declared.

Mr. Nagy highlighted the fact that the Ministry’s main goal was to create the conditions for the production and processing of safe and high quality foods, and the conditions required for them to reach the market.

The Deputy Minister pointed out that there is increasing demand for additive-free foods and the role of local specialities and traditions is becoming increasingly important, which in turn is leading to increased demand on the part of consumers for locally produced foods.

“At the Ministry of Agriculture we believe in permanent values and are committed to preserving them”, he said.

Mr. Nagy declared that trademarks and geographical indications provide a quality guarantee for consumers with regard to the origin and authenticity of local products. He also explained that trademarked and origin-labelled products have a complex effect on local economic development, and contribute to creating jobs, increasing tourism attractiveness and sustainable rural development.
