The Middle Eastern country is showing interest in excellent quality Hungarian cereal, vegetable and fruit seeds, as well as fungicides and pesticides. Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas and Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister Abbas Keshavarz met this week to discuss the expansion of trade relations and possible joint forms of research & development.

Mr. Fazekas received his Iranian colleague in the Ministry of Agriculture following several bilateral, high-level professional and diplomatic meetings, with whom he discussed the deepening and expansion of existing cooperation.

Hungary sees an excellent opportunity in the export of cereals, fruit and vegetables, for which agricultural products there is a demand in the Middle Eastern country. In addition, the parties discussed technological transfer and the setting up of a bilateral expert commission to coordinate it. They also initiated the signing of an inter-ministerial memorandum of understanding on animal and plant health cooperation aimed at regulating the issuing of export licences for agricultural products.

Mr. Fazekas and his Iranian colleague also discussed possibilities for the processing of Iranian medicinal plants in Hungary. In addition, both parties are committed to the conclusion of an inter-governmental agreement on cooperation within the field of developing agricultural research.
