“The Commercial Award of Excellence for Hungarian Products was presented for the first time; the reward recognises the introduction of healthy and safe Hungarian products to the market to the highest possible extent”, Parliamentary State Secretary and Deputy Minister Sándor Farkas said in Tapolca.

During the award ceremony held on the second day of the four-day food trade conference, Mr. Farkas stressed that it would be possible to exploit the roughly 40 percent reserve that exists in Hungarian agricultural production if digitalisation, precision farming, robotics, and irrigation on an greater area appeared in farming to an increasing extent. “In addition to a rise in raw material production, if market operators made use of cooperation opportunities, the processing industry would also benefit. Ultimately, Hungarian agriculture would be able to produce food for some 25 to 30 million people, as opposed to the 15 million people it supplies today”, the Deputy Minister said.

The Commercial Award of Excellence for Hungarian Products established by Magyar Termék Nonprofit Kft. and Trade magazine, was awarded in recognition of efforts to promote and sell domestic products, based on votes cast by companies using the Product of Hungary trade mark according to Eszter Benedek, Managing Director of Magyar Termék Nonprofit Ltd., who gave a speech during the award ceremony. The hand-crafted ceramic sculpture representing the Commercial Award of Excellence for Hungarian Products was won by Spar Magyarország Ltd., with Auchan Retail Magyarország Ltd. coming in second, and Metro Kereskedelmi Ltd. finishing in third place. The award was established with the intention of creating a tradition, and organisers expect even greater activity on the part of contestants.
