“During the past three years the countries of the Visegrád Group (V4) have acted against illegal migration while showing true European solidarity”, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács stressed on Hungarian M1 television’s Thursday evening current affairs program.
In evaluation of the meeting between the prime ministers of the Visegrád Group countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) and the Austrian Chancellor in Budapest on Thursday, the Government Spokesperson said: “There is full accord between the countries of the V4, including with relation to the fact that what is happening on the European Union’s borders must be stopped”.
With relation to the constitutional amendments adopted by Parliament on Wednesday, Mr. Kovács said: “In view of the mandate that the Government received at the recent parliamentary elections, it is difficult to claim that the Government isn’t representing the interests and will of the Hungarian people with both the constitutional amendment and the ‘Stop Soros’ legislative package”.
The Government Spokesperson highlighted the fact that in recent years the Hungarian Government has introduced measures that react to the changing world and changing conditions, which “are adapted to reality” and which handle the situation that is affecting the country, irrespective of the migration crisis. Mr. Kovács said that in his view it has been proven with relation to every single one of the measures introduced during the past three years that they were steps taken in the right direction and were necessary.
He also spoke about the fact that the amendment of the Criminal Code has closed all loopholes before the organisers of illegal migration. “We must however also concern ourselves with the fact that various organisations are not just promoting immigration illegally, but also legally”, he added.
Mr. Kovács pointed out that the Hungarian Government has spent over one billion euros on protecting its borders and stressed that this is just one reason why it is justified to levy taxes on organisations that are actively supporting migration.
