Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s Friday morning program, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said: a few days ago the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled against Hungary for expelling two Bangladeshi men following an absurd procedure.
“We cannot repeat the absurdity of the procedure enough”, he said, stressing that the organisation that launched the legal action was one of those that had “encouraged people bound for the West to break existing laws, and who spoke about human rights that are not set down in any international agreements”.
Mr. Kovács said the situation was bizarre and hair-raising and stressed that no international agreement states that someone has the right to freely decide their prospective place of residence or where to submit their request for asylum.
It is often the case that in such court cases non-governmental organisations cite professional opinions that they themselves previously prepared for others, he explained, noting that such cases can cost the taxpayer up to 110-130 million euros.
