According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, it is evident that the campaign of the pro-Soros powers will be picking up strength again; the plans that are the subject of the National Consultation are on the table in Brussels, and the powers that are plotting to realise them are at work in the European Parliament.
Speaking on Hungarian M1 television’s Thursday evening current affairs program, Mr. Kovács said: “We have known for a long time that the European Parliament’s liberal group leader Guy Verhofstadt doesn’t like us”, but one of the reasons his attack is difficult to understand is that so far he has voted in favour of every initiative aimed at the introduction of the mandatory quota. The Belgian politician “interfered in Hungarian domestic politics” when he urged people to vote yes at last year’s referendum, he added.
With relation to the fact that at his usual Thursday press conference Minister heading the Prime Ministers’ Office János Lázár said that events were gaining momentum in Brussels, Mr. Kovács said: “the consonance is uncanny”, suddenly, when according to news reports George Soros is expected to visit, MEP’s who are the businessman’s sympathisers or greatest helpers in Brussels are issuing statements and are beginning to put forward the usual accusations, in this case with relation to the National Consultation.
Guy Verhofstadt shared his comments criticising the Hungarian Government and the National Consultation on several social media sites, asking Brussels to declare that the Consultation goes against the fundamental principles of the European Union, or in other words asking for it to ban the National Consultation. On his social media page, the EP’s liberal parliamentary group leader wrote of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the National Consultation: “Another outrageous development in Orban’s populist quest to reinforce his autocratic rule by generating fear”.
