“Migration is a key issue in every European country; during the past three years it has become clear that political issues relating to migration permeate every area of life”, State Secretary for International Communications and Relations Zoltán Kovács said on Kossuth Radio.
Mr. Kovács recalled the statements made at Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s press conference on Thursday, according to which immigration and the arrival of illegal migrants will be the determining issue in Europe over the next two decades.
“Europe must find its way back to its roots because this is how the challenge facing the continent as a result of migration can be responded to most effectively, and the questions concerning the future of Europe can also be explained best from this original approach and Europe’s relationship with Christian culture”, the State Secretary explained. “The dividing line that currently exists within the European People’s Party indicates which member parties have in fact become liberal”, he added.
“With relation to illegal migration, the Central European countries, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, have embraced a school of thought from which they have developed independent approaches that are on a par with those of Western Europe also with relation to many other European issues”, Mr. Kovács emphasised. “In a certain sense, Austria, Italy and Bavaria are also part of this group; an extremely strong Central European identity has developed, which will play an extremely important role”, he stated.
“The make-up of the European Parliament (EP) will change”, the State Secretary declared, adding that that he hopes an anti-immigration majority is established that will help preserve Europe’s original identity and culture.
With relation to the EP election campaign, he explained: In recent weeks in Hungary “a politicising opposition with no true programmes or true ideas has attempted to present its will to the public in a harsh, shocking and astounding form”. “This does not change the point, which is that the majority in Hungary does not agree with the approach of the pro-immigration Hungarian opposition”, he stated.
“The reality is that migration is a determining issue in Europe, and during the part three years the Hungarian Government has provided good responses and has successfully transposed them into practice”, Mr. Kovács said.
