According to the Government Spokesperson, left-wing organisations and organisations associated with the left are trying to deny the European Union’s quota plan related to illegal immigration.

Zoltán Kovács said on the Thursday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1: it is well worth taking a look at the left to see why they are denying the quota lawsuit and the quota plan. In his view, the draft – which the left itself voted for – clearly indicates that there is a quota plan, by virtue of which the EU will seek to distribute the people arriving in Europe for a prolonged period and in a sustainable manner, and there is also mention of the organisations which are working on the legalisation of illegal migration.

The Government Spokesperson said: in the past six to seven years, they have got used to the fact that if there is a contradiction “on issues concerning sensitive debates and topics”, the opposition and organisations associated with them, such as non-governmental organisations, organisations funded from abroad, „raise a hue and cry in public opinion”. On top of that, they „mostly resort to lies”, but it transpires with time that the Hungarian regulations conform to the EU’s expectations, he added. In Mr Kovács’s view, „there are political considerations and differences” behind these initiatives.

As he said, the biggest contradiction, “a diagonally opposite view” exists on the issue of illegal immigration. The Government does not wish to let migrants either into Hungary, or into Europe because it takes the view that „this is not the future of the continent”. These organisations „have a vested interest in a different scenario”, he remarked.

According to the Government Spokesperson, also in the context of the legislation concerning foreign universities, there would be no need for fabricating a political issue, but instead a technical solution should be found to the statutory regulation which puts an end to their privileges. He repeated: there are no conditions in the legislation that could not be met.

Mr Kovács also said that next year’s budget will be completed by June. It is an open secret that there are tasks yet to be accomplished in the department of competitiveness, the Government Spokesperson pointed out, adding: it is an important consideration from the viewpoint of the growth of the Hungarian economy that the country – similar to other States – should seek to promote its own producers and local small and medium-sized businesses, rather than multinational corporations.
