In the present political atmosphere in Europe, it is very important to maintain relations with political players who are open and receptive to the Hungarian and Central European position regarding Europe policy, the future of the European Union and illegal migration, the Government Spokesperson told the public service media on Tuesday in Rome.
Regarding his talks, Zoltán Kovács said that he met primarily with representatives of the Italian press, but he would also have talks with Undersecretary of State of the Prime Minister’s Office Giancarlo Giorgetti.
He highlighted that as the European parliamentary election campaign has effectively begun, they feel the need to disclose the plans of the Hungarian government. He said they spoke about illegal migration and family policy, and in the context of the latter about the latest round of national consultations. In his view, the Hungarian results achieved in these areas can serve “as a model even by European standards”.
In continuation he said that also with Giancarlo Giorgetti he will discuss the most important European issues, and will outline Hungary’s concepts. He added that they observe that there are economic problems in Italy, and they believe that they may be of help if they share elements of the functioning of the Hungarian model with the Italian party.
Regarding the fact that when Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, leader of the party La Lega, a common political strategy was “a central topic”, Mr Kovács said the Fidesz-KDNP party alliance will take part in the campaign under the auspices of the European People’s Party, but they are open to any cooperation, both at governmental and party political levels, which seeks to represent the European people’s interests from the viewpoint of illegal migration, the functioning of European institutions and the future of Europe.
