In a Twitter message on Wednesday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács reminded EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn that in a report on Macedonia issued in spring 2018, the European Commission wrote: there is a danger of political intervention in the justice system in the Western Balkan country.

In addition, the Government Spokesperson also drew the attention of the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations to a report published by the Council of Europe’s anti-torture committee in October 2017, according to which healthcare services in Idrizovo Prison are absolutely insufficient and are endangering the lives of prisoners, and the conditions in which people are being held may be regarded as inhumane in several parts of the prison.

Furthermore, the report also mentions widespread corruption, with prisoners acquiring better cells, medications, mobile phones or even drugs for money.
