“The fault lines in European party politics are being determined by a new topic: the approach to migration”, the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister’s State Secretary for International Communications and Relations Zoltán Kovács on Kossuth Radio’s “Good Morning, Hungary!” show on Wednesday.
“What’s the point of talking about European Parliament elections when a significant part of the European People’s Party has in effect shifted to the left, and is putting forward socialist and liberal schools of thought?”, the politician asked.
“Practically everyone who is against migration thinks in terms of a Europe of nations, and would like to reinforce European families, while the pro-immigration side is putting forward a pan-European point of view that wants a United States of Europe on the model of the United States of America, which is totally alien to what was originally professed by the members of the European People’s Party”, he noted.
He also spoke about the fact that in his opinion, in Europe today, and particularly in Western Europe, it is no longer common practice to talk about reality, and instead they try to make people understand what Europe should do using “fabricated words, fabricated expressions and a projected reality”. “In contrast, the countries of Central Europe, including Hungary, have found a ‘pragmatic voice’, and talk about the reality that the people of Europe are personally experiencing”, he highlighted.
According to the State Secretary, these two “world views” are clashing, and in his opinion the goal of the Western European countries and a significant part of the European People’s Party is for this difference in points of view and positions to not appear in a marked fashion, but to “disappear if possible”.
“The European people are dissatisfied with the way the European Union works, and one of the main reasons for this dissatisfaction is the way the European Commission and the system of European institutions has handled the issue of migration”, Mr. Kovács declared.
