Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony is making desperate attempts to shift responsibility while the data of the past few weeks evidently reveals that the epidemic is spreading most in elderly care homes in the capital, the Minister of State for International Communication and Relations said on his social media account on Saturday.

Zoltán Kovács wrote the reason for this is that the Mayor of Budapest started taking action too late, and failed to prepare metropolitan elderly care homes for the epidemic. He has his own competence and responsibility, it is high time for him to deal with them, he observed.

The Minister of State also shared a diagram which demonstrates the number of persons who died in elderly care homes operated by the metropolitan municipality. According to the information, so far 93 elderly care home residents have died of coronavirus infection, including 64 residents of care homes in the capital. As so far 320 coronavirus patients have died in Budapest and Pest County, this means that “every fifth coronavirus patient dying in Budapest and Pest County comes from an elderly care home operated by the metropolitan municipality,” Mr Kovács wrote.
