The European Commission is systematically working to weaken action taken against migration, the Minister of State for International Communication and Relations told the Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday.
Zoltán Kovács said this in response to the fact that Commission Vice President Vera Jourová referred to one of the questions of the national consultation launched by the government as ‘fake news’. According to the question, ‘Brussels is preparing to attack the Hungarian Constitution’s rules related to immigration. They want to force us to change the provisions of our Fundamental Law prohibiting migration.’
“In contrast to the Vice President’s claim, the truth is that in the past few years the European Commission has systematically attacked all the measures we have taken to reinforce the European border and to reinforce border protection,” Mr Kovács stated.
He said the previous commission politically attacked, among others, the construction of the fence, and they keep working together with non-governmental organisations “which clearly support and even organise illegal migration”.
The Minister of State recalled that the Commission had instituted infringement proceedings against Hungary in connection with the issue of transit zones, the issue of legal border closure and the issue of the ‘Stop Soros’ legislation.
“These actions clearly prove that the Commission is systematically working to weaken European border protection and to take away means from Member States, primarily Hungary, which enable them to take effective action against illegal migration,” he pointed out.
Mr Kovács added that in the multiannual financial framework for the period between 2021-2027, the European Commission would triple the grants of non-governmental organisations, including many pro-migration organisations.
He observed that Vera Jourová’s activities connected to George Soros and George Soros-type organisations are evident, and clearly testify to a pro-migration mentality.
