Avoiding the problems caused by mass illegal migration is an elementary expectation and interest of the Hungarian people, the Government Spokesperson pointed out on Monday at a background discussion organised for journalists in Vienna.

Zoltán Kovács told the Hungarian news agency MTI by telephone that the background discussions which are held every two months have made it evident and obvious that the problems caused by mass illegal migration pose the number one challenge for Hungary, and the measures implemented to counter these constitute the most important efforts.

The Government Spokesperson stressed the number one priority is to prevent Hungary from becoming an immigrant country.

He said they want to make sure that we avoid the development of situations such as those observed in some cities in Western Europe where problems caused by migrants are daily occurrences.

Mr Kovács also said that, in the context of economic achievements, he drew the attention of the Austrian press at the background discussion to the speech delivered by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the Budapest economic policy forum Economic Year Opening of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 6 March. In this the Prime Minister spoke about the goals concerning the future of the Hungarian economy should the Fidesz-KDNP alliance remain in office. The four pillars of the Hungarian model, as the Prime Minister pointed out at the time, are competitiveness, a workfare economy, demographic policy and identity policy, Mr Kovács said.
