“The Government supports the sending of an extremely strong message by the General Assembly to the adopters of the Sargentini Report concerning the fact that Hungary cannot be stripped of the right to decide on issues that most affect our lives”, Csaba Dömötör said.
The Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary State Secretary called the Sargentini Report “a poor-quality ideological indictment”, which is in fact the “gravest possible attack against Hungary’s self-determination”, because it disputes the fact that we can make decisions ourselves with relation to fundamental issues such as immigration.
In his opinion the Sargentini Report is also the election programme of the pro-immigration forces, in view of the fact that this dispute is no longer just about Hungary, but about whether Europe “leaves its borders wide open or is capable of defending them”.
The State Secretary stressed that the vast majority of the charges listed in the report concern issues that have already been closed, while others are ideological expectations that have nothing to do with the rule of law and others are “lies of such magnitude that it’s a wonder the roof in Strasbourg didn’t collapse”, and if we remove these issues then to all intents and purposes the document is attacking the Governments immigration policy. Mr. Dömötör said that in his opinion it does so from at least six directions: it calls Hungary to account for its action against the resettlement quota, it objects to the fact that Hungary did not accept immigrants, it attacks the border barrier and the Stop Soros legislative package, in addition to which it speaks out in defence of Ahmed H, who attacked police at the border, and criticizes the fact that the Government drew a parallel between immigration and terrorism during the last National Consultation.
The State Secretary called the role of Hungarian opposition parties with relation to the Report shameful, criticising the MSZP, DK and Párbeszéd parties for voting in favour of the Report, and Jobbik for “joining the left-wing chorus”.
Mr. Dömötör said that in his opinion pro-immigration political decision-makers are currently in a majority in European institutions, but that this could change next spring, and this is why they want to conclude even more risky pro-immigration plans now, such as transferring border protection rights to Brussels. “In May, every European citizen will be able to voice their opinion on these issues, but the Hungarians have already sent a clear message at a referendum, several national consultations and the elections, that the country’s security and the protection of Christian culture is important to them, that they would not like spheres of competence to be taken away from Hungary in future, and that they will not allow Hungary to be turned into an immigrant country”, he emphasised.
“Accordingly, the Government supports the sending of an extremely strong message by the General Assembly to the adopters of the Sargentini Report concerning the fact that Hungary cannot be stripped of the right to decide on issues that most affect our lives”, he said. “Those opposition MEPs who are attacking the country can by all means tell their foreign allies that the Government is ready for the political battle and will not bow to blackmail”, he declared.
