“The rate of unemployment in Hungary is continuously decreasing, and the number of people in employment is increasing”, Minister of State for Government Communication Bence Tuzson said on Kossuth Radio’s Sunday morning show.
“It has been 25 years since there have been so many people working in Hungary as there are now; 4 million 445 thousand people are currently working, and unemployment is at a record low of 4 percent”, he highlighted.
The Minister of State said the Government has reduced personal income tax and taxes related to work, and these measures have contributed to increasing employment, pointing out that the Government first reduced employer social contributions to 22 percent, with a further decrease in employer burdens to 19.5 percent planned for next year.
Mr. Tuzson also explained that last year’s six-year wage agreement had significantly increased the minimum wage for workers and skilled workers, thanks to which wages have increased in several wage categories.
The Minister of State said that if employers continue to increase wages as a result of the agreement, the Government will in turn continue to reduce taxes on work.
He also said that public work was a temporary form of employment, with more and more people moving forward onto the job market.
Mr. Tuzson also highlighted the fact that many Hungarians who have been working abroad are now returning to Hungary.
