Parliamentary State Secretary Csaba Dömötör has told Hungarian news agency MTI that he regrets the Hungarian left’s absence from the talks on the constitutional amendment held in Parliament on Monday. He said that this shows that the MSZP and LMP continue to make Brussels’ migration quotas a party political issue.
Mr. Dömötör believes that by doing so these parties are acting in opposition to the clear result of the recent referendum. On 2 October a new unity was established in Hungary; this is the community of those who believe that decisions on such important issues as migration must not be made while ignoring the Hungarian people.
The State Secretary added that the result of the referendum places everyone under an obligation, which is why the Government has initiated amendment of the Fundamental Law, according to which collective relocation of non-Hungarians to Hungary would be banned in the future. “We believe it is important for every parliamentary party to take into account the 98 per cent majority in the referendum, and to adopt their position accordingly”, he added.
Mr. Dömötör also said that those who dispute the risk of Brussels introducing a quota package should read the news on Tuesday’s sitting of the European Parliament. This clearly shows that left-wing Brussels representatives continue to see the solution in mandatory relocation, while allowing more room for further immigration. He added that this is reinforced by recent statements from the European Commission, which have made it obvious that the decision on the quotas will not be revoked, and which thus make the constitutional amendment necessary.
Representatives of the MSZP and LMP did not attend the five-party discussion on the constitutional amendment held on Tuesday.
