Csaba Dömötör, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister, has said on public television channel M1 that if the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) really wants to support the Government, it should not contest the referendum being held on 2 October.
He said this in response to a statement by President of the MSZP Gyula Molnár, who said that his party does not support compulsory quotas, and that if the Government’s proposal also represents this position, they will be ready to support it.
The State Secretary pointed out that earlier the Socialists had said that illegal migration was an imagined problem, and they denied that Brussels was planning compulsory quotas.
He added that the MSZP should clearly state whether or not they support Brussels’ proposal on compulsory quotas.
