“The proposal is in harmony with the results of the parliamentary elections in view of the fact that Hungarian citizens clearly stated: Hungary must be protected from illegal immigration. The bill mirrors this intent”, Csaba Dömötör said.

“Hungary is ready for the disputes relating to the ‘Stop Soros’ legislative package, during the course of which the Government will in all cases be concentrating on the country’s security interests”, the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary State Secretary said at a press conference in Budapest, indicating that the Government will be submitting the bill to Parliament on Tuesday.

“The ‘Stop Soros’ package will make the organisation of illegal immigration punishable, making it a qualified offence for someone to facilitate illegal immigration using financial means or to perform such activities on a regular basis. This would incur a maximum penalty of one year in prison”, the State Secretary said. The legislative package also stipulates that Hungary will not accept asylum requests from people who are not being persecuted.

It was already evident in the period prior to the Bill being submitted that “major forces are mobilizing against the legislation”; Hungary is ready for the ensuing disputes, he underlined. “We must reinforce our political armour against illegal immigration, not least in view of the fact that while Hungary is using all possible instruments to protect its borders, Brussels is moving to finalise the mandatory resettlement quotas”, he said.
