According to the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary State Secretary, it is outrageous that the Helsinki Committee is taking legal action to attempt to prevent the National Consultation.
In a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI, Csaba Dömötör said: “It would seem that the organisations funded by George Soros are doing everything possible to prevent Hungarian citizens from voicing their opinions with regard to the billionaire’s plans”.
The State Secretary was reacting to reports by Hungarian daily Magyar Idők, according to which the Helsinki Committee is demanding that all National Consultation questionnaires be destroyed and the government website for the drive be closed down because of the alleged violation of their personal rights.
“The Government will not be changing its standpoint and is prepared for the dispute”, Mr. Dömötör stressed.
“The people of Hungary cannot be prevented from expressing their views on these immigration proposals that represent a serious risk to Hungary”, the State Secretary explained, highlighting the fact that the Helsinki Committee’s submission is just one more reason for as many people as possible to take part in the National Consultation.
