The Hungarian position related to illegal migration “which we have tried to enforce throughout” has been right from the beginning, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister stated on the public service television news channel M1 on Tuesday.
György Bakondi spoke about this in the context of the changes that are beginning to take shape in the European Union’s migration policy in the wake of the situation which has evolved at the Turkish-Greek border.
In response to the fact that President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is urging new migration measures, the chief advisor observed that the drafting of a pact has been under way ever since the new commission president entered into office, and the Hungarian government itself has played an active role in the process.
They are seeking to ensure that elements of the pact reflect the Hungarian government’s concepts as far as possible, he stressed.
Mr Bakondi took the view that the EU’s new migration pact appears to be breaking with some of the elements the Hungarian government previously objected to, including open borders and the mandatory distribution quotas.
