Greece is in a critical situation as the coronavirus has appeared in refugee camps situated on its inland territories, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on the Friday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.
György Bakondi added that there was no information about the islands where migrants had continued to arrive in significant numbers also in recent weeks.
He highlighted that one of the greatest challenges at present was the connection between illegal migration and the pandemic.
The chief security advisor also said there are now around 130,000 migrants in transit on the Balkans route.
On their tested routes developed by people smugglers, movement has become restricted as all countries concerned have introduced stringent border control systems due to the coronavirus epidemic, Mr Bakondi said.
