The Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister described the situation that has recently developed in the Balkans as complex and dangerous as tens of thousands of migrants have crossed the Turkish border on their way to Europe.
On Sunday evening on the public service television news channel M1, György Bakondi said since the opening of the Turkish border, some 80,000 people have left Turkey, while there could be around 100,000 migrants in transit on the Balkans route.
Additionally, some of the migrants are coming from or through Iran which is one of the epicentres of the coronavirus infection, he added. He mentioned that Hungary had suspended indefinitely the admission of illegal migrants to the transit zone as, he said, there is a connection between the coronavirus and illegal migration.
