A joint press conference held by the Government and the governing party has drawn attention to the fact that according to Fidesz, Brussels and the Soros organisations have launched a fierce attack against Hungary because of the introduction of stricter border security measures and for stopping immigrants.
At a press conference on Wednesday in Budapest, Fidesz parliamentary group spokesperson János Halász said: The Hungarian police officers and military personnel guarding the border are being attacked with lies, and “Soros’s people are being ordered to write these lies”.
“Several Soros organisations, including Amnesty International, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, the Artemission Foundation, the Menedék Hungarian Association for Migrants and the Migszol Migrant Solidarity Group of Hungary, have issued a joint statement attacking the reinforcement of the legal border closure and have called on Brussels to take action against Hungary”, said the Spokesperson, according to whom with this step pro migrant organisations are once again encouraging migrants to become illegal immigrants, to confront the authorities and to break the law.
Mr. Halász said this was intolerable, stating: “Anyone who comes to Hungary must obey Hungary’s laws”.
He also said that the Brussels bureaucrats are still pro-immigration and Brussels wants to punish Hungary once again for “not letting the immigrants through”. “Despite the fact that by protecting Hungary’s borders we are also protecting the external borders of Europe”, he noted.
In reply to a question, the spokesperson said the party would defend Parliament’s decision on the new legislation because they believe it is in harmony with both European law and is in the interests of the people of Europe.
At the press conference, Minister of State for Government Communication and Fidesz MP Bence Tuzson also spoke about the fact that “the country is under continuous attack from Brussels”, and for instance European liberal and left-wing politicians are calling for another hearing with regard to Hungary.
“And some of the Commissioners of the European Commission are threatening to punish Hungary with sanctions, or even the withdrawal of funding, and with infringement proceedings, if Hungary does not change its policies on illegal immigration”, he added.
According to Mr. Tuzson, the EU and many member states are practicing dual politics. As an example, he mentioned the fact that the German Chancellor had on several occasions urged that no more illegal immigrants arrive in the EU or Germany via Hungary at various meetings of the European Council. “There is only one way this can be achieved: if no more illegal immigrants are allowed to enter Hungary”, and one of the important steps towards achieving this was the new legislation reinforcing the legal border closure adopted on Tuesday, the Minister of State declared.
In summary, Mr. Tuzson said that attacks against Hungary and its government’s policies are getting stronger, whereas the fact that “We don’t want mandatory resettlement in Hungary”’ was decided at a referendum.
In reply to a question, János Halász told reporters: the parliamentary group’s bill on the transparency of “agent organisations” is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly within one or two weeks, and could be put to the vote before the end of the spring session of parliament.
In reply to a question from the press on relations between Jobbik and business tycoon Lajos Simicska, the Spokesperson quoted the article published on the topic on the Origo news portal on Wednesday, according to which Fidesz is waiting for Jobbik to reply to several questions. What kind of cooperation exists between Jobbik and Simicska and “what does Jobbik receive in return for also defending the interests of Simicska, who also owns major areas of farmland, against the government’s agricultural policies?”, he said, listing some of the questions.
“The party would also like to know how and with how much Simicska and the media outlet he owns is financially supporting Jobbik, is there a contract between Simicska and his companies and the pro-Jobbik Compass Institute, and how much the institute is receiving from Simicska”, he added.
In reply to a question concerning the fact that according to the Index news portal the Government is planning to introduce stricter regulations that could affect large supermarket chains, Mr. Tuzson replied: “Protecting consumers is of key importance and is something the government is continuously dealing with, as in the case of the current food scandal, and also with relation to the fact that consumers have access to good quality and affordable foods”. The Minister of State indicated that bills and proposals on this topic are regularly put before the government, but the Cabinet has made no decision of this kind.
