“The Brussels country report on Hungary is yet another campaign report; Brussels is interfering in the Hungarian election campaign and is using the report to help the opposition”, Minister of State for Government Communication Bence Tuzson said at a press conference in Budapest on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Tuzson, the aim of the Brussels report is to place pressure on Hungary and to achieve the demise of the national government and replace it with a “pro-immigration cabinet that is acceptable to Brussels”, and which would demolish the border security fence and implement the quotas.
He also said with relation to the Brussels document that it is an “unprecedented interference” in the Hungarian election campaign. According to the Minister of State, the report of a political nature “tossed something to the Hungarian opposition so they will have something to talk about over the next few weeks”.
According to reports, people with close links to Hungarian left-wing politicians were also involved in preparing the report, including Gábor Magyar, the son of left wing parliamentary candidate György Magyar, who was also Béla Biszku’s lawyer, the Minister of State added, stating that it is unacceptable for a report of this nature to have been “written in the legal office of an opposition parliamentary candidate”.
Mr. Tuzson said he felt it was also unacceptable that organisations such as Transparency International should take part in the preparation of a report of this nature, adding that Transparency protested against the construction of the border security fence and with relation to the “Stop Soros” legislative package, and is continuously attacking Hungarian immigration policy.
“The European Commission has once again joined the Hungarian election campaign and is using a double standard: with relation to law enforcement, for instance, the report feels the Law Enforcement Council has a limited sphere of authority with relation to appointing judges. In contrast, no body of this kind even exists in Austria and Germany and there are no such guarantees”, the Minister of State pointed out, noting that otherwise law enforcement fundamentally falls within a national sphere of competence.
In reply to a question on the video about Vienna posted on the Facebook page of Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár, Mr. Tuzson said: “The facts and the truth must be presented”, adding that by removing the video citing offensive content, Facebook has unwittingly interfered in the election campaign.
